Referring to Giotto's St Francis Feeding the Birds, from the church of St Francis, Assisi, Italy, Dawe's Watching out for Saint Francis, features a number of threatened water birds. Dawe's birds turn to face the wind. "They watch and wait for help; maybe its in the wind"

Bing Dawe is interested in the impact of the human world on natural habitats. This series of weathervanes like early works by him remind us to step more lightly and with consideration of the world around us.

Currently featured in Sculpture in the Gardens, Auckland Botanical Gardens.
