John Lyall 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, 1979 - 1985 4mm nibbed pen on
1mm gridded architectural drafting film. Signed & dated.
Lyall has always fascinated by “the beauty of mathematics”. He began this suite of numbers in 1975 and completed the set eight years later.
Each number has only one maze solution, but many have implied multiple solutions (i.e. nine & five). Each joins to the other challenging the viewer to complete all ten. Lyall has kept the maze itself hidden by placing the start and finish at the periphery of our vision; not easily findable until we stand back to view the works.
